<p style="text-align: left">Where you able to get any good <em>leadership and management training</em> out of this video?</p>
<p style="text-align: left">I personally found the entire video to be very good. I enjoyed the last speaker the best because he talked about some things that are bound to come up whenever you&#8217;re looking to change the status quo. When I was first starting out in leadership, I experienced everything that he talked about but didn&#8217;t know what I was up against and I must say it was very challenging.</p>
<p style="text-align: left">If you say the intro video to this blog, you would know that I was very frustrated in the beginning because I didn&#8217;t know what leadership was or that it even existed. It&#8217;s a very good thing that you&#8217;re learning this now because you will be better prepared when things happen this way which will most of the time. Whenever I moved to a new store, I knew exactly what was going to happen when I started to want things done differently than in the past. In my opinion, this was a really good video.</p>

<p style="text-align: left">My favorite part of the video was when he talked about the fact that the people that you lead are always watching you, especially during the challenging times. This is so true. In fact, they are watching you even more during the toughest times so you have to really step up your game regardless of how you may be really feeling about a situation for the sake of the team. This is so true.</p>
<p style="text-align: left">There have been times when I have felt a little uncertain about some of the tasks my team would have to accomplish but I never showed it or spoke of it because I knew the negative effects it would have on my team. <p>There was some really valuable tips inside that video and I&#8217;m sure you agree. I was reminded of a couple of things that I haven&#8217;t thought about in a while. I loved his first rule of &#8220;It ain&#8217;t as bad as you think. It will look better in the morning&#8221;. I think he&#8217;s referring to the fact that the first thing your mind like to do when something happens that&#8217;s outside of your comfort zone is to automatically think of as many negative possibilities as possible for that situation.</p>
<p style="text-align: left">Rather than buying into it right away, if you give yourself some time, you&#8217;ll be better equip to know how to handle it. That&#8217;s what that rule has met for me in my experiences. What does it mean to you? <h3 id="watch-headline-title" style="text-align: center">Colin Powell Speaks about Training on Leadership</h3>
<h2 style="text-align: left">Did you learn anything new about this short training on leadership?</h2>
<p style="text-align: left">I would like to quickly comment on one of the things Colin spoke about in the video which was the fact that you have to be willing to discipline people when they&#8217;re not doing their job. If you know my story, I had major problems with this one early on in my career because I didn&#8217;t want to rock the boat. I couldn&#8217;t even be mentored through it. Instead I had to take a full day class to get the proper <em>training on leadership</em> to overcome it.</p>
<p style="text-align: left">As I look back, I now see that the longer you allow someone to get away with not doing their job, it effects everyone in the environment. Morale drops, negativity creeps into the environment, some people&#8217;s productivity drops, and the list goes on. When you handle these issues quickly, there may still be some pain but I rather have quick pain than pain that goes on for months.</p>

<h2 style="text-align: left">Did you learn anything new about how to improve leadership skills?</h2>
<p>I think I mentioned it in the video but I had to learn this the hard way. Before I got a really good understanding of what being a <a href="http://grabyourfreegift.com/robm" target="_blank">leader</a> really met, I used to have my mind made up and knew what I was going to say to people before they even started talking. This caused me to zone out during conversations and not hear and understand everything that was said.</p>
<p style="text-align: left">Then I would get confused as to why the problem didn&#8217;t get resolves in a timely manner. I wasn&#8217;t being a good listener and it doesn&#8217;t take long before the word gets out about it. Then people don&#8217;t want to come to you because they think they&#8217;re wasting their time. This can be a very painful situation for you to have to clean up.</p>
<p style="text-align: left">You will have some challenges in this area no matter what but the tips shared will help ease the pain and make you better prepared to handle it. <h1>Performance Management Training</h1>
<p>The number of subordinates a manager can effectively manage depends on the impact of underlying factors. Aside from such personal capacities as comprehending quickly, getting along with people, and commanding loyalty and respect, the most important determinant is a manager&#8217;s ability to reduce the time he or she spends with subordinates. This ability naturally varies with managers and their jobs, but several factors materially influence the number and frequency of such contacts and therefore the span of management.</p>
<p>The better the training of subordinates, the fewer the number of necessary superior-subordinate relationships. Well-trained subordinates require not only less of their manager&#8217;s time but also less contact with their managers. Training problems increase in new and more complex industries. Managers in the technologically stable railroad industry, for example, would tend to be more completely trained than those in the ever-expanding aerospace industry. The rapid changes in policy and procedures in the complex electronics and missile industries would increase training problems.</p>
<p>Training enables managers to reduce the frequency and extensiveness of time-consuming contacts. The principal cause of the heavy time burdens of superior-subordinate relationships, however, is to be found in poorly conceived and confused organization. The most serious symptom of poor organization affecting the span of management is inadequate or unclear authority delegation. If a manager clearly delegates authority to undertake a well-defined task, a well-trained subordinate can get it done with a minimum of the manager&#8217;s time and attention.</p>
<p>But if the subordinate&#8217;s task is not one that can be done, if it is not clearly defined, or if the subordinate does not have the authority to undertake it effectively, either the task will not be performed or the manager will have to spend a disproportionate amount of time supervising and guiding the subordinate&#8217;s efforts.</p>

<p>As always, I managed to get something of value out of this information provided but there was something mentioned within it I that must comment on. Towards the beginning of it, Elizabeth mentions that a leader has to get heavily involved with things are not either running according to plan or there is a lack of training of the people you lead. This is true but you want to be involved with as many people as possible no matter how things are going.</p>
<p>Yes, it would be nice to have the ability to not have to deal with certain people within your organization because they are doing their job well and even exceeding your expectations but don&#8217;t make that mistake. They still need your involvement, your praise, your presence, etc. to help keep them motivated and on track. I made that mistake before and had to learn the hard way and i don&#8217;t want you to do the same.
